Deadline broke the news of King’s boarding the project as both a star and executive producer with McG ( Charlie’s Angels) set to direct. At the red carpet for the premiere of Bullet Train in 2022, King spoke a bit about working on the film, saying the Uglies book caught her attention as an 11-year-old. Laverne Cox ( Promising Young Woman, Orange Is the New Black) joined the film’s cast at the end of 2021, as Deadline exclusively reported.
