‘The Sympathizer’ Star Hoa Xuande On How The Complexities Of War Affect Relationships & Possible Miniseries Continuation

For 'The Sympathizer' star Hua Xuande speaks to Deadline about the miniseries and possible continuation.

For Australian Vietnamese actor Hua Xuande, the Vietnam War was a compilation of incredibly sad yet impactful stories shared by family members that up until recently, he didn’t fully understand. But since joining the cast of the HBO miniseries The Sympathizer, based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, Xuande wishes he could have those moments with his loved ones again with a better understanding of what their experiences might’ve been like as well as the atrocities of war. From Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar, The Sympathizer is an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of Captain (Xuande), a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his resulting exile in the United States.
