‘The Substance’ among 16 Cannes titles set for New Zealand Film Festival play, Venice sets pre-festival screening, Sony India hires GM.
The “Widescreen” strand showcases films including: Chinese director Guan Hu ’s Un Certain Regard-winning “ Black Dog ”; Mohammad Rasoulof’s “ The Seed of the Sacred Fig,” which took home Cannes’ Special Jury Prize; Boris Lojkine’s “The Story of Souleymane”; and Rúnar Rúnarsson’s “When the Light Breaks.” The 1954 film, with its six separate stories of the denizens of Naples, was presented in competition in Cannes in 1995 and earned multiple prizes, including the best actress award for Silvana Mangano. Shebnem Aski n, executive VP, creative production and head of SPIP, said: “These are exciting times as we take a step to make and release our biggest local slate for the Indian market in the next two years.
