'The Goonies 2' is officially in the works, Steven Spielberg producing

A sequel to 'The Goonies' is officially in the works at Warner Bros., with Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus among the film's producers.

Steven Spielberg, who wrote the story for and executive-produced the original 1985 film, is also producing alongside his Amblin Entertainment colleagues Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario. The Goonies followed a group of Oregonian kids who raced against the menacing Fratelli family to find pirate treasure and save their houses from foreclosure. Fans have long requested (and speculated about) a sequel, but this is the first time a follow-up project has officially gained momentum in decades.
