‘The Brutalist,’ ‘Conclave’ and ‘The Substance’ Lead Wins at Alliance of Women Film Journalists Awards (EXCLUSIVE)


"The Brutalist," "The Substance" and "Conclave" are some of the biggest films awarded by the Alliance of Women Film Journalists.

Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” won best film against the likes of “Anora,” “ Conclave,” “Emilia Pérez,” “Nickel Boys,” “The Substance,” “Sing Sing” and “Wicked,” another victory in the film’s belt after winning three awards at the Golden Globes. Coralie Fargeat won best director for “The Substance” along with best original screenplay, where she prevailed over Sean Baker, Payal Kapadia, Jesse Eisenberg and Mike Leigh. “2024 was an exceptional year with so many women playing major creative roles in high profile projects,” AWFJ President Jennifer Merin says.
