‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture — The Director’s Edition’ Score Reissued on Deluxe Vinyl
Jerry Goldsmith's score for 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture — The Director's Edition' will be reissued on deluxe vinyl Nov. 15 by Enjoy the Ride Records.
The pressing, which is limited to 1,000 copies across five color vinyl variants to be distributed across different online retailers, is housed in a rainbow foil-laminated gatefold jacket with a double-sided full-color insert. However, the director’s cut was not fully restored and upgraded to high definition until 2022, when Paramount Home Video went back and updated the computer graphics to contemporary standards and fulfill Wise’s full vision of the picture. Those versions have impacted its critical reputation over the years, inspiring casual viewers and diehard fans alike to reevaluate its artistic merits — particularly ahead of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” widely regarded as the film series’ best entry.
