‘Squid Game’ Star’s Cannes Closer ‘Next Sohee’ Nabbed for North American Release in Deal Unveiled at Hong Kong FilMart (EXCLUSIVE)
July Jung's charged drama-thriller 'Next Sohee' will make its lstateside theatrical debut this May, following an international festival run.
It follows a high school student’s tragic experience during an internship at a call center with grueling working conditions, and the subsequent investigation by a determined detective, played by Bae Doona (“Rebel Moon,” “The Host”). Lead actor Kim Si-eun, who appears in the second season of Netflix’s global phenomenon “Squid Game,” is the teenage protagonist facing systemic exploitation. “Next Sohee” has earned significant critical praise throughout its festival circuit, with t he Variety review saying that the film “makes a bold case for the criminal malpractice at the heart of contemporary exploitative labor practices.”
