Starring Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn and America Ferrera, the coming-of-age film hit theaters on June 1, 2005, and its message of female empowerment and friendship quickly made an impression on fans of author Ann Brashares ’ young adult novels. Bledel revealed during a 2018 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that the group had "pitched the third movie" seemingly based on the follow-up novel Sisterhood Everlasting and were hopeful that a new project would begin soon. Two years after Sisterhood hit theaters, Lively scored a lead role in the CW’s beloved teen drama series, Gossip Girl, starring as chic Upper East Side high schooler Serena van der Woodsen.
