Out March 22, the Netflix film tells the story of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress, and chronicles her trailblazing 1972 presidential campaign. In 2019, Regina King won the Oscar for best supporting actress for Barry Jenkins’ adaptation of James Baldwin’s “If Beale Street Could Talk.” Her other notable credits include “Jerry Maguire,” “Ray” and “The Harder They Fall.” Grammy winner Samara Joy recently told Variety she has a new original song coming out in “Shirley.” But she held back on revealing all the details, saying, “I can’t tell you the artist I collaborated with.
