Premiering in 1975, “NBC’s Saturday Night” featured 8 original cast members dubbed the “Not Ready for Prime-Time Players:” Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, Dan Akroyd, John Belushi, Garret Morris, Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman and Geroge Coe. Akroyd would go on to create a collection of beloved characters, including “On the Spot,” Irwin Mainway, the inventor of the Bass-O-Matic and Bat-O-Matic, Julia Child, and is half of the iconic duo that makes up “ Two Wild and Crazy Guys ” with Steve Martin. On the day his role was announced, Gray posted this on social media, “Well, here’s to the beginning of my (long) campaign for Senator … stoked to be part of this wild story as the legend Al Franken w my partner Mcabe Gregg as Tom Davis.”
