‘My Brother in Rhyme & Art’: Chuck D, Czarface, Bun B, and More Remember Chino XL

Chino XL's friends, family, and collaborators are paying tribute to the rap veteran who died at his home on Sunday morning at the age of 50.

Sage Francis, who founded the indie hip-hop label Strange Famous Records, remembered Barbosa in a thread of posts that traced back to the first time he heard Chino XL. Southern rap legend Bun B echoed this sentiment in his tribute, shared beneath a photo of Barbosa published on Instagram. Chino XL is survived by his four daughters, Chynna, Bella, Lyric, and Kiyana as well as his stepson Shawn; his five grandchildren Emmy, Emery, Chris, Luis, and Dyani; his mother, Carole; and his former longtime partner Stephanie, according to a family statement published to social media.
