'The Kerala Story' director Sudipto Sen's Sipping Tea Cinemas is taking 'Charak' to the Cannes market, and is readying a slate of films and series.
Indian filmmaker Sudipto Sen, known for his controversial 2023 box office hit “The Kerala Story,” has unveiled an ambitious slate of projects under his new banner Sipping Tea Cinemas, as his producer debut “ Charak – Fair of Faith” heads to the Cannes Film Market. Positioned in the emerging “folklore horror” genre, the film blends suspense with social commentary, featuring storylines about child abduction and exploring themes of non-biological motherhood, friendship, childhood, and parenthood. Sipping Tea Cinemas’ upcoming slate includes a sequel to the 2001 classic “Chandni Bar”; “Basera,” a political thriller set against the backdrop of Maoist-inspired Naxalist insurgency; “The Eighth Note,” a biopic on legendary Carnatic singer M.S.
