This led many to assume that the sequel would underperform at the box office compared to the original, but almost nobody predicted that the opening weekend would be as poor as it ended up being. This puts the film at a similar box office bounty to Morbius, which was considered a failure with a budget far, far below that of Joker ‘s sequel. When combined with marketing and other associated costs, the project would need to make $450 million at the box office just to break even, a number almost impossible to reach with such a horrendous opening weekend.
