‘Janet Planet’s Annie Baker Reteaming With A24 On ‘Ancient History’; Sophia Lillis & Daniel Zolghadri To Star
A24's 'Ancient History,' starring Sophia Lillis and Daniel Zolghadri, will be Annie Baker's next movie, Deadline can exclusively reveal.
Sophia Lillis, Daniel ZolghadriChristopher Mellevold/Christopher Good EXCLUSIVE: After partnering with A24 on her feature directorial debut, Janet Planet, Pulitzer and MacArthur Award-winning playwright Annie Baker is reteaming with the studio on Ancient History, a new film to star Sophia Lillis( I Am Not Okay with This) and Daniel Zolghadri( Funny Pages), which she’ll direct from her own script. In addition to the Netflix coming-of-age series I Am Not Okay with This and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Lillis is known for turns in the It films, HBO’s Sharp Objects, Alan Ball’s Uncle Frank, and Wes Anderson’s Asteroid Cit y. Upcoming, she will be seen in Tim Robinson’s HBO comedy The Chair Company, the Peacock miniseries All Her Fault opposite Sarah Snook, and action thriller Trap House opposite Dave Bautista. First garnering recognition for his work on a pair of A24 films — Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade and Owen Kline’s Funny Pages, where he was the lead — Zolghadri will soon be seen starring opposite Rose Byrne in the dark comedy If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, which drew rave reviews this year at Sundance, and the acclaimed thriller Lurker, which was snapped up by Mubi following its launch at the same festival.
