'If you're that sensitive, don't go to the theatre': Dame Judi Dench, 89, hits out at rise of trigger warnings ahead of performances


Dame Judi Dench (pictured) widely considered one of Britain's greatest actors, said she was shocked to learn that such pre-show warnings even exist.

When asked about her opinion on such alerts, the 89-year-old Bond star told this week's Radio Times: 'My God, it must be a pretty long trigger warning before King Lear or Titus Andronicus. The Harry Potter star, 61, said that stage performances should leave audiences 'shocked and disturbed' adding that the element of surprise is 'what makes theatre so exciting'. At the time a warning had been placed on the theatre's website saying the show contains strong language, sexual references and discussions of bereavement and cancer.
