'I gave birth to my best friend's baby - for me it was always their baby and never mine'

EXCLUSIVE: Emiliana Hall, 38, acted as a surrogate for high school best friend Sophie Smith, 37, when Sophie had fertility issues, prompting a generous offer that changed their lives forever

"Sophie and I were so excited to be pregnant together – we were besties from the age of 14 – so I was devastated for her when her 12-week scan revealed she had lost the baby, while my pregnancy continued. A few months later, I gave birth to my daughter Mollie and, while Sophie was over the moon for me, things just got harder in her own quest to have children – she suffered multiple losses and fertility problems. I was a gestational surrogate, so Sophie and Jack’s embryo was created and implanted in me via a ‘natural’ round of IVF, which meant I didn’t need to inject hormones.
