'Harper's Bazaar? More like bizarre': Vicious war of words erupts over 'swans of society' magazine feature. We reveal who the gossips say shouldn't have been included... and the puppet-master behind it all
Harper's Bazaar Australia attempted to recapture the magic of Truman Capote's essay A Gathering of Swans, replacing his socialites of late-1950s America with the modern-day 'It' girls of Sydney.
But this time the new 'swans' hail from Australian high society, and former Sydney Morning Herald gossip columnist Andrew Hornery served as the scribe alongside photography by Michele Aboud. Madeline's fellow 'swans' are Jaimee Belle Kennedy, the Group Creative Director of fine jewellery store Kennedy; heiress and arts patron Paris Neilson; Kate Champion, the luxury stylist and ex-wife Laser Clinics Australia co-founder Alistair Champion; online retail expert Qianqian Deng; racing royalty Kate Waterhouse; and Beau Neilson, the creative director of Sydney’s Phoenix Central Park. While her relationship with Hemmes undoubtedly puts her in the top tier of socialites, some sources tell us they suspect her close friendship with Caroline Tran, the fashion editor of Harper's Bazaar, may have been what landed her a spot in the prestige magazine.
