‘Gladiator 2,’ ‘Dune 2,’ ‘Blitz’ Among Camerimage’s 2024 Main Competition Lineup
Twelve films have been nominated for the main competition at the Camerimage cinematography festival.
This includes a pair of high-profile sequels: “Dune Part 2,” lensed by Greig Fraser, who won the cinematography Academy Award for Part 1 of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s scifi novel; and “Gladiator II,” shot by John Mathieson, who earned an Oscar nom for Ridley Scott’s 2000’s original “Gladiator.” The final nominee is Steve McQueen’s WWII drama “ Blitz,” lensed by Yorick Le Saux, which is also Camerimage ‘s opening night film. The previouslycannounced contenders for the main competition’s Golden Frog include “Conclave,” “The Brutalist,” “Emilia Pérez,” “The Fire Inside,” “Small Things Like These” and “Cabrini.” This year, three-time Oscar nominated cinematographer Lachman is scheduled to accept the festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award, while screening some of this movies including his latest, Larraín’s “Maria,” which stars Angelina Jolie as renowned opera singer Maria Callas.
