George Miller ’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the anticipated latest installment in his apocalyptic franchise, had its world premiere here at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday. Baz Lurhmann, who was at Cannes two years ago with Elvis, was overheard as he exited the theater tonight calling the film “a steampunk, Wagnerian opera.” In the origin story, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus (Hemsworth).
