'For decades I dreamed of being a writer - here's how I finally cracked it at 50'

EXCLUSIVE: Author Becky Ward tells OK! about her journey to success - from adventure books at 10 to love stories as a teen - and how she eventually achieved her dream at long last

There followed three or four notebooks full of angsty poems in my teens, mostly about unrequited crushes and boys behaving badly, along with lyrics for my favourite artists at the time (step forward Bon Jovi and DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince). Thinking back to the words of the agent who told me chick lit was dead, I changed tack completely in my thirties and wrote a dark drama about a high security prison illegally testing drugs on the inmates and the terrifying journey of the news reporter trying to get the story out in the open. Becky couldn't wait to celebrate publication day of her latest book with close family and friends (Image: Supplied) Fast-forward almost two decades, during which I wrote hundreds of travel features and show reviews for the various magazines I worked for, and I found myself with more spare time on my hands than usual thanks to lockdown.
