‘Emmerdale’ Removed From BAFTA TV Awards Soap Category After Writer Admits to Assault


A writer for UK daytime TV drama Emmerdale has admitted to assault and suffocation of his girlfriend, forcing ITV to pull it from the BAFTA TV awards

Long-running British daytime drama “Emmerdale” will no longer be competing in the soap category at the upcoming BAFTA TV Awards after one of its former writers admitted to assaulting his partner. ITV, which broadcasts and produces the show made the the decision to withdraw “Emmerdale” from this year’s award “in consideration of recent news involving a member of the scriptwriting team,” according to a statement sent to BAFTA voters on Tuesday. The news came just hours after Martin Fustes admitted in court to the he assault of his girlfriend, causing actual bodily harm and an offence of intentional suffocation.
