‘Eddington’ Trailer: Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal Feud Through George Floyd Protests and Machine-Gun Fire in Ari Aster’s COVID Western

Pedro Pascal and Joaquin Phoenix feud in A24's trailer for 'Eddington,' Ari Aster's Western about 2020 protests and COVID conspiracy theories.

The new footage pulls viewers back five years, with sequences of six-foot-enforced social distancing, protests sparked by the murder of George Floyd and online conspiracy theorists. The cast also includes Austin Butler, Emma Stone, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr. and William Belleau. Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman liked it, calling it a brazenly provocative Western thriller that sets out to “capture the creeping unreality of what America’s become.”
