‘Doc’ Renewed For Season 2 With Big 22-Episode Order Amid Medical Drama & Format Resurgence

Fox has given an early, 22-episode Season 2 renewal to breakout freshman Doc starring Molly Parker amid a comeback for medical dramas and formats.

And in another rarity, besides Tracker, the biggest new drama debuts of the last two seasons have had a single female lead played by an actress who in her 50s ( Doc’ s Parker, Elsbeth’ s Carrie Preston), is about to turn 50 ( High Potential ‘s Kaitlin Olson), or older, Matlock’s Kathy Bates, 76. Doc follows the story of Dr. Amy Larsen (Parker), the hard-charging, brilliant ex-Chief of Internal and Family Medicine at Westside Hospital and her colleagues, loved ones and rivals who must navigate a new reality when she returns to work after a brain injury erases the past eight years of her life. “We’re ecstatic Doc has been picked up for a second season – a testament to the exceptional writing, captivating performances from our talented cast, and the incredible reception from audiences,” said Katherine Pope, President, Sony Pictures Television Studios.
