‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Lifts Imax’s Quarterly Earnings, But Revenues Slip Without an ‘Oppenheimer’

Imax's quarterly revenues fell as the company faced difficult comparisons with a year-ago period that saw the release of 'Oppenheimer'

“Deadpool & Wolverine,” the R-rated and irreverent Marvel mash-up proved to be big business for Imax, lifting quarterly earnings at a company that has become synonymous with comic book movies. In addition to “Deadpool & Wolverine,” other major movies released in Imax during the most recent quarter included “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” “Alien: Romulus,” and “Transformers One.” The rest of the year will bring “Wicked” and “Mufasa: The Lion King.” In a statement, Imax CEO Richard Gelfond predicted that 2025, which will include sequels to “Mission: Impossible” and “Avatar,” will be the company’s “best year ever at the global box office” and forecast that Imax would earn $1.2 billion worldwide.
