“Central Park Five” Sues Donald Trump For Defamation Over Remarks Made At September Presidential Debate

The five defendants in the case, who were later exonerated, filed a defamation lawsuit.

The five men wrongfully convicted of the assault and rape of a woman in Central Park in 1989 have filed a defamation lawsuit over comments that Donald Trump made about them at September’s presidential debate. Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, Antron Brown and Korey Wise claim in their lawsuit that during the debate, Trump falsely stated that they “killed an individual and pled guilty to the crime. Their case came up during the presidential debate when Kamala Harris noted that Trump “took out a full-page ad in The New York Times calling for the execution of five young Black and Latino boys who were innocent, the Central Park Five.”
