‘Buffalo Kids,’ ‘They Shot the Piano Player,’ ‘Black Butterflies’ Lead 2025 Quirino Award Nominations
The Quirino Awards recognize excellence in Ibero-American animation from 23 countries. This year's ceremony will take place on May 10.
This year’s feature category includes “Buffalo Kids” – a high-grossing kids and family feature set in the Wild West; “They Shot the Piano Player” – an animated thriller unraveling the disappearance of Brazilian pianist Tenorio Jr. during Argentina’s military dictatorship; and “Black Butterflies” – an animated documentary focusing on forced migration due to climate change and a recent Goya Award winner. This year’s jury features a distinguished panel of experts, including Ben Kalina, producer at Titmouse Studio; Carolina López Caballero, researcher and programmer; Helena Nylander, head of children’s content at SVT; Daniel Bruson, director, screenwriter, and animator; and Leyla Formoso, CEO of Prime Entertainment Group. Additionally, the Co-Production and Business Forum will host a special roundtable, Women in Ibero-American Animation, featuring a refreshed format to enhance professional development.
