‘Alien: Romulus’ Holds Off Challengers, Tops U.K. and Ireland Box Office for Second Week
Disney's 'Alien: Romulus' maintained its grip on the U.K. and Ireland box office, earning $2.6 million in its second week of release.
The sci-fi horror entry scared off strong competition over the Bank Holiday long weekend in the territory from holdovers and new releases alike. Other notable releases include Trinity CineAsia’s Chinese film “Black Dog,” directed by Guan Hu, which won the Un Certain Regard Award at Cannes this year; Conic’s BFI London Film Festival-winning Swedish drama “Paradise is Burning”; and Vertigo’s Toronto title “Close to You” starring Elliot Page. The weekend’s limited engagements and anniversary screenings include Sony Pictures’ one-week run of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” Paramount’s 55th-anniversary 4K reissue of “The Italian Job,” the 40th-anniversary 4K restoration of James Cameron’s “The Terminator” from Park Circus, who are also bowing the 4K restoration of “Ocean’s Eleven,” while EMG (Enriched Media Group) debuts documentary “Point of Change” for one day only.
