“ Star Wars: A New Hope ” director George Lucas wanted the costumes of the film to be both memorable and help inform audiences about the personality of each character. From 1977 to the present day, the “Star Wars” look has borrowed from the European military for the rustic armored appearance, Samurai culture for the Jedi knights and helmets, and capes. The transformation ties her to the light side of the force as she accepts her legacy and purpose, which isn’t “death and destruction,” but rather, to be a beacon of hope.
