34 Albums We Can’t Wait to Hear This Summer

The soundtrack you’ll be blasting at festivals, barbecues, and alone in an air-conditioned bedroom.

In a 2024 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Miley Cyrus described her upcoming ninth LP as “a concept album that’s an attempt to medicate somewhat of a sick culture through music.” We’ll see how that pans out, but the former child star is tackling fame and a whole lot more through songs that are lyrically and sonically constructed to have a therapeutic effect on the listener. But the 24-year-old looks poised to be one of the dominant forces in the pop world with her debut LP, which features the sultry “Diet Pepsi” and Björk-borrowing “Headphones On.” Rather than going with a number of hit songwriters, Rae chose to collaborate with only Swedish producers Luka Kloser and Elvira Anderfjärd, who work with Max Martin, on the album’s dozen tracks, which should add a level of cohesion to her inaugural release. If you’ve ever been on social media, surely you can relate to the opening salvo of the Hives’ “Enough Is Enough”: “Everyone’s a little fuckin’ bitch / And I’m gettin’ sick and tired of it!” The Swedes have been calling out complainers and complacency for decades, and their cocksure garage rock is still as tight and beefy as it was when “Hate to Say I Told You So” blew up 25 years ago.
