Startup Shibuya Launches Short-Film Streaming Platform That Lets Fans Greenlight Pilots to Series

Shibuya, a crowdfunding storytelling startup, officially launched "Season One," a collection of five short films fans can pledge to support.

The shorts feature talent including Archie Madekwe (“Gran Turismo,” “Saltburn”), Peyton Kennedy (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Everything Sucks!”), Bradley Steven Perry (“Good Luck Charlie”), Nesta Cooper (“Reality High”) and Ximena Lamadrid (“Who Killed Sara?”). L.A.-based Shibuya first launched in 2022 with a $6.9 million seed round co-led by a16z and Variant Fund, with participation from Durant’s Thirty Five Ventures and celebrity investors including Paris Hilton and Joe Tsai’s Blue Pool Capital. Mills said she started writing her “Don’t Forget About Me” short as a way to “reconnect with the part of YouTube I’ve always loved most: that direct connection to an audience.” When Shibuya reached out, “it honestly felt like fate,” she said in a statement provided to Variety.
