Sherri Shepherd Reveals Her Role on Everybody Loves Raymond Was Meant for Queen Latifah

Sherri Shepherd and Queen Latifah were both considered for the same roles in 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' and 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' Shepherd tells PEOPLE.

Shepherd frequently auditioned against other funny women including Niecy Nash, Retta and Michelle Buteau. “I was so excited because Ray Romano and [series creator] Phil Rosenthal took me out to a sushi restaurant,” Shepherd remembered. The film followed hairstylist Gina Norris, played by Queen Latifah, as she competed against her former boss Jorge ( Kevin Bacon).
