Quentin Tarantino | Netflix paid $20m for Cliff Booth script

Quentin Tarantino opted not to direct his Cliff Booth sequel movie - and instead took $20m off Netflix for David Fincher to make it.

Having chosen not to direct the film as his tenth and final movie, Tarantino had the written script for the project – which we think is called The Continuing Adventures Of Cliff Booth – but the filmmaker reportedly wasn’t that enthused about choosing to finish his career with a sequel. It’s far from perfect, with even Cannes boss Thierry Fremaux publicly weighing in on the matter in 2024, saying, “he’s still a great filmmaker, but he doesn’t exist at the same level in our hearts and minds than when he showed Zodiac in competition. Plus, from Tarantino’s perspective it wouldn’t be a great look for the filmmaker to be criticising the state of cinema from one side of his mouth whilst glad-handing Netflix from the other and lining his pockets in the process.
