Music Box Acquires North American Rights to ‘The Summer Book,’ Starring Glenn Close (EXCLUSIVE)

Music Box Films has acquired the North American distribution rights to "The Summer Book," starring Glenn Close.

Based on Tove Jansson’s beloved novel, “The Summer Book,” director Charlie McDowell’s film adaptation is a meditative and sensitive portrayal of grief and intergenerational bonds between nine-year-old Sophia and her grandmother, played by Close. Together with Sophia’s father (Anders Danielsen, “Lie,” “The Worst Person in the World”), they spend time at their family’s summer home on a tiny, unspoiled island in the Gulf of Finland, exploring the islet, talking about life, and feeling the weight of subjects left unspoken. “’The Summer Book’ marks a pivotal moment for Kanopy as our first narrative feature collaboration, and we couldn’t be prouder to partner with Music Box Films on this adaptation,” said Jason Tyrrell, exec VP of Content at OverDrive.
