Netflix’s hit Korean TV show is back for its final series and as a gun-wielding guard Park Gyu-young is one of its biggest stars

During the audition process for season two of Squid Game, Park Gyu-young received a good luck gift from her friends: a teal-green tracksuit similar to those worn by players on Netflix’s biggest — and bloodiest — show. When we meet in Whitehall in central London, Park, 31, is dressed (almost) head to toe in Gucci (she has been an ambassador for the brand for nearly two years and studied fashion and textiles at college) in a chic black shirt and matching skirt with horsebit buckles. Part of a new wave of K-pop cultural icons that include Blackpink and BTS, Park has gained a level of hysteria-driven fame that doesn’t align with the unassuming young actress.
