Major Royal Mail changes confirmed for July as some deliveries scrapped

The changes, announced by regulator Ofcom, will see Royal Mail axe the six-days-a-week service for second class letters, but will maintain Monday to Saturday deliveries for first class post

Royal Mail is set to bid farewell to Saturday deliveries for second class post, with Ofcom giving the green light for a switch to alternate weekday service starting from July 28. Amidst affordability worries, Ofcom is also reviewing stamp prices and setting new safety net delivery targets, mandating that 99% of mail must arrive no later than two days behind schedule. Natalie Black, Ofcom's group director for networks and communications, said: "These changes are in the best interests of consumers and businesses, as urgent reform of the postal service is necessary to give it the best chance of survival."
