Embroidered silks to Adidas collabs: the evolution of the kimono – in pictures


A new exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria features more than three centuries of kimono design. Here, the show’s curators talk through some of the key works

Opening on 4 June, the National Gallery of Victoria’s (NGV) exhibition Kimono features hundreds of garments, paintings and posters. It includes historic garments from the Edo period, right through to works by contemporary Japanese and western designers such as Issey Miyake and Alexander McQueen Main image: The National Gallery of Victoria’s exhibition Kimono.
