EastEnders star Shona McGarty 'honoured' after major career update since leaving BBC soap


Shona McGarty has shared an update on her career after leaving the BBC soap last year after more than a decade of playing Whitney Dean

The actress, who played Whitney Dean on the BBC soap from 2008 to 2023, has made her West End debut in the musical Queen of the Pin-Ups, portraying the iconic model Bettie Page. Shona's character, Whitney, was involved in several intense storylines during her 16-year tenure on EastEnders, including being exploited by her mum's fiancé Tony King (played by Chris Coghill) and terminating her pregnancy after learning her unborn child had Edwards' Syndrome, reports the Manchester Evening News. Whitney had some big storylines during her time on the show (Image: BBC/Kieron McCarron/Jack Barnes)The 33-year-old actress bid farewell to Walford in May last year, with her character relocating to Wakefield with her daughters following her husband Zack Hudson's (James Farrar) infidelity.
