Duchess of Kent's act of defiance after breaking golden Wimbledon rule
Katharine, the Duchess of Kent, attempted to bend Wimbledon's stringent rules in an effort to carry out a heart-warming gesture but was shut down by SW19 organisers
Yet, despite the Duchess's longstanding ties with Wimbledon, she was left furious with the club back in 1999 when they denied her request to have the 12-year-old son of a friend who had passed away join her in the Royal Box. Access to the oak-panelled section at the southern end of Centre Court is strictly through invitation and is reserved for adult guests of the Royal Family, tennis stars and "individuals of distinction and others who in various ways contribute to the betterment of our lives and society". The star-studded list includes Sir David Beckham, Anthony Joshua, Gary Lineker, Olivia Rodrigo, Russell Crowe, and John Cena.
