Denis Villeneuve Spent Years Chasing His James Bond Dream, Saying Directing 007 Would Be “Pure Cinematic Joy”
Denis Villeneuve's booking as the next James Bond director is no surprise — he has spoken about his desire to helm 007 for more than a decade.
As far back as a decade ago, when Villeneuve was on the promotion trail for Sicario, the Canadian said that action is art — and Bond is the very pinnacle of the genre. Then in 2021, Villeneuve told the Happy Sad Confused podcast, hosted by Josh Horowitz, that he remained enamored with the idea of being handed the keys to Bond’s Aston Martin, taking over from No Time to Die helmer Cary Joji Fukunaga. The hiring of Villeneuve was not entirely expected, given that he’ll be tied up for the foreseeable future with his third and final Dune film for Warner Bros and Legendary Entertainment.
