2wai, an AI start-up founded by actor Calum Worth and Hollywood producer Russell Geyser, is coming out of stealth with the launch of its first app. The duo claim the app, essentially a proof of concept of 2wai’s technology, provides an efficient way for celebrities, brands and others create lifelike, conversational avatars that fans can chat with — but with key safeguards in place, so that the AI doesn’t say something bizarre or inappropriate. Geyser, who has known Worthy for more than a decade, counts production credits including “To Catch a Killer,” “Stowaway” and “Honest Thief.” He said 2wai has raised $5 million in friends and family “pre-seed” funding and currently employs 24 engineers and nine business-development staffers.
