Zena soon admitted: "When I put a few posts up on my social media a lot of people said oh you're just a visa vagina, you're just a sex tourist." However, on the show, Zena tells her elderly mother: "I'm 20 odd years older but he treats me like a queen." In a trailer released before the show, fans saw tensions building between the two as her family and friends think she's "nuts", but Zena maintains: "Ebrima has a very intellectual out view on life."
